Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how ABU Campuswave ("we", "us", or "the Platform") collects, uses, shares, and protects your information when you use our website and mobile apps (iOS and Android). ABU Campuswave is a student and alumni campus network offering social feeds, communities, messaging, an in‑app Credits system for tipping creators, and a peer‑to‑peer student Marketplace. By using ABU Campuswave, you agree to this Policy.

1. Information we collect

We collect the following categories of information:

  • Account & profile information — name, username, email address, password (stored only as a secure hash), profile and cover photos, bio, role, and campus. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and profile picture from Google.
  • Content you create — posts, replies, reactions, messages, media (images and videos), community activity, marketplace listings, and opportunities.
  • Messages — direct and group chat content, which is delivered to the recipients you send it to.
  • Credits & transactions — your Credits (CP) balance, tips/gifts, engagement earnings, and subscription records. Card and bank payment details are handled by our payment processor (Paystack) and are not stored by ABU Campuswave.
  • Device & technical data — device type, operating system, app version, IP address, and a push‑notification token (for delivering notifications).
  • Usage data — how you interact with the Platform, such as posts you view (impressions), which help power your feed, trending topics, and creator earnings.
  • Permissions you grant — camera, photo library, and microphone access, used only when you choose to add photos or videos to a post or message. Notifications permission, used only to send you alerts you have enabled.

2. How we use your information

  • Provide, operate, and maintain your account and the Platform's features.
  • Show your feed, communities, messages, marketplace, and opportunities.
  • Deliver push and email notifications you have enabled (you can turn these off in Settings).
  • Process Premium subscriptions, and track in‑app Credits, tips, and creator earnings.
  • Calculate engagement‑based creator earnings from unique post views.
  • Keep the Platform safe — detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and policy violations.
  • Respond to your support requests and communicate important service updates.

3. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as needed to run the Platform:

  • With other users — your public profile, posts, and marketplace listings are visible according to your privacy settings; messages are shared with their recipients.
  • Service providers that process data on our behalf:
    • Cloudinary — hosting and delivery of images and videos you upload.
    • Paystack — processing subscription payments.
    • Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) — delivering push notifications.
    • Google — sign‑in, if you choose Google authentication.
    • Email delivery providers — sending verification and notification emails.
  • Legal reasons — where required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of ABU Campuswave, our users, or the public.

4. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you deactivate your account it is hidden; when you delete your account, your profile and personal data are removed or anonymised, subject to limited records we must retain for legal, security, or financial‑compliance reasons.

5. Your rights and choices

  • Access & update — edit your profile and information in Settings.
  • Notifications — control push and email notifications in Settings.
  • Privacy controls — set a private account, manage activity status, and block users.
  • Deactivate or delete — deactivate temporarily, or permanently delete your account from Settings → Account & Security → Danger zone.
  • Data requests — contact us at support@wavesocial.com.ng to request a copy or deletion of your data.

6. Children's privacy

ABU Campuswave is intended for university students and alumni. It is not directed to children under 13, and you must be at least 18 to make payments on the Platform (for example, purchasing a Premium subscription). If we learn we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it.

7. Security

We use industry‑standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted transport (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. International users

Your information may be processed and stored on servers operated by us and our service providers in countries other than your own. By using ABU Campuswave, you consent to such transfer and processing.

9. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you within the app.
